Day 1-Your Heart, Set it on Things Above
For those of you coming into this post make sure you read Jump-Start Your Faith 5Day Faith Challenge and use the “I’m In” button in the sidebar to join in on the challenge.
Here we go!
Welcome to your 5 Day Jump Start Your Faith Challenge! I’m Teliah NaShonia and if we haven’t met before, let me begin by saying, “It’s great to meet you and be in this Challenge together!”
There’s one thing I want to get out of the way, right away, and I don’t want you to forget it, OK? Promise me you’ll remember this. Because if you don’t, you might find yourself in over your head.
This is a simple Challenge that only requires you to use the SOAP scripting journaling method to activate your faith. Let’s keep it simple, even if you get busy on a day in the challenge just pick up where you left off. God door is always open to you.
So, now that we have that very important fact known to all, let’s get started!
To kick us off, we will first define what Faith is? Is it complete trust, having confidence in someone or just and exaggerate term Christians makeup?
Yes, FAITH is trust, assurance, and confidence in God. Living FAITH is shown by service and obedience to God. God will increase our faith if we fervently ask and draw close to him.
Let’s do this! It’s time to jump into our first assignment, shake off those feelings of uncertainty and doubt and move on to what God has planned for us.
We will direct our focus on Our Hearts – So We Can “Set It Things Above.” We will be reading Colossians 3:1-2 so make sure to have your BIBLE close by.
As a normal human being we are likely to stress, and worry over things that are temporal -unpaid bills, loss of job, friction in our relationships with family or friends. At times were more concerned about the misery we feel in the moment than what God says. Our hearts are closely attuned to the chaos in our life, rather than Jesus.
We will need to understand that our FAITH will get us through anything. It takes faith to even believe in Christ; it takes faith to believe that what God says is always right and true, and it takes faith to trust and walk in every day.
Let’s Utilize the S.O.A.P method to analyze this. S.O.A.P stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God’s word. For this process, please refer to page 5 in the “5Day Jumpstart Your Faith Challenge,” pdf.
S (Scripture): “Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”-Colossians 3:1-2 NLT
O (Observation): My heart needs to be focus on heaven, not on this earth. I will be happier and healthier, but less emotionally drained. God will clear my heart of what this world says is important and lead me to focus it on things above.
A (Application): I need to remain FAITHFUL when suffering. This means that I need to trust God with my heart, finances, health, job, and relationships. (Why? Because it makes you more like Jesus. It deepens your faith. It brings you rewards in Heaven. It builds your character. It teaches you to worship instead of worry.
P (Prayer): “Lord, I believe according to your word in Colossians 3:1-2 that you will clear my heart of all the clutter this world has filled it up with. So, that my heart will be set on the things above. My heart will be set on heaven, not on earth. And I believe that you will heal my guilt for not trusting that word is right and true. I accept that as I offer you my little faith, greater faith will come through speaking and hearing and believing this word, and I will be well and made whole in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
My walk with God has been impacted in so many ways since I started this type of scripture writing a few months ago. Instead of allowing my FAITH to wither, I spend time in the Word, I now find myself more focused, meditating on a specific Word for that day. It’s almost like I have a specific portion of scripture to chew, digest, and sustain me for the day.
I truly hope that your enjoyed DAY 1 just as much as I did. God wants you to remain faithful to him and keep on doing good to others. Is that easy to do? Not always. Does it take faith? Definitely. Is it worth it? Absolutely, because God is guiding you to becoming more like Jesus.
Stay tuned for Day 2 we will uncover one of the GREATEST gifts God has given us all.
See Ya Soon,
♡ Teliah NaShonia
