If a relationship with God is so valuable, its benefits must be out of this world, right?
Of course, and here they are:
- Eternal life. More than simply “living forever”, it’s about our quality of life on earth. It’s really living. True spiritual life. “But if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteousness” (Romans 8:10, RSV).
- A home in heaven. On the other hand, who wants this life to be the end of it all? Jesus told His disciples, “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places…I am going away to prepare a place for you…I will come back and receive you to Myself so that where I am you may be also” (John 14:2-3, HCSB). Living eternally with God in heaven is the ultimate reward.
- Freedom from worry and anxiety. Anxiety is one of the great killers of our time. Worry causes and exacerbates all kinds of maladies. Heart disease. Cancer. Influenza. Depression. Worry is like a disease itself that infects so many people. In contrast, Jesus commands us not to worry (see Matthew 6:25, 31, and 34). God can supply everything we need, so there’s never a need for the Christian to worry.
- Purpose in life. God gives true meaning and purpose to your life. His purposes for you are far superior to any goals or plans you have for yourself. So David had great confidence in God’s purposes: “I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me” (Psalm 57:2, NIV).
If a relationship with God has so many benefits, why aren’t you taking advantage of it?
